The APM104 is a digital paging microphone for 4 zones which is equipped with a condenser element with cardioid characteristic, mounted on a 30 cm gooseneck. By means of a built-in compressor / limiter, the output level of the microphone signal is constantly maintained. The status of the reproduced signal is indicated on the front panel, to ensure the speaker that the message is clear and audible in all situations. The console has 4 zone selection buttons and three standard buttons with preassigned functions: PTT (Push To Talk), select all and clear. The functions can be freely programmed by using the APM configuration software. In combination with the AUDAC ARU relay groups, the APM paging consoles offer a wide range of possibilities.

Example 1
In normal operation, the music coming from the Line-Level audio source (CD-Player, Tuner, MP3 Player, … ) will be heard in all the zones. (The relays of the ARU will be switched to background music) In case of an announcement, the ARU will switch to the signal coming from the paging microphone (for the channels selected by the buttons on the APM microphone) and the announcement will be heard in the selected zone.
In this way, every zone has a separate amplifier (or channel) whereby the power or volume for each zone can be different. (e.g. Some zones are bigger than others, so need more amplifier power)
Advantage:
- Volume can be set for each individual zone
- Amplifier power can be different for each individual zone
Disadvantages:
- Every zone needs separate amplifier
Example 2, 100V application
This application diagram shows a simple and basic setup with an APM Paging Microphone in an analogue paging setup, combined with an ARU Intelligent Relay Unit. Besides the APM Paging Microphone, a Line-Level audio source is connected as background music source. The audio signal coming from the sources (APM Paging Microphone and Line-Level audio source) is amplified before it’s fed to the ARU unit. This way, only two amplifiers (One for paging and one for background music) are necessary, no matter how many output zones are used. As long as the amplifier power is sufficient for driving the loudspeakers.
In normal operation, the output of the background music amplifier will be fed to the ARU and will be heard in all output zones. (The relays of the ARU will be switched to background music) In case of an announcement, the ARU will switch to the signal coming from the Paging amplifier (for the channels selected by the buttons on the APM microphone) and the announcement will be heard in the selected zone.
In this way, only two amplifiers are required, no matter how many output zones are used.
Advantage:
- Only two amplifiers are required, no matter how many zones used
- Volume for background music and paging can be set separately
Disadvantage:
- Amplifiers should have sufficient power for driving all zones
Example 3, Multiple Paging microphones
This application diagram shows a more advanced analogue setup with multiple APM Paging Microphones linked with each other in bus structure, combined with two ARU Intelligent Relay Units.
Multiple APM Paging Microphones are connected, using different numbers of control buttons. This way, some paging consoles can be configured in such way that they only can control only some (and not ALL) zones, or they can be configured in such way that multiple zones are ‘grouped’ under one button, meaning by pressing one single button messages are announced in multiple zones at the same time.
The APM Paging consoles are connected in a bus structure, wherein only one Paging Microphone can be used simultaneously. The paging is priority based and can be configured by addressing. The first ARU Unit is used for switching between the line level signal coming from the background music source and the paging microphone.
In normal operation, the music coming from the Line-Level audio source (CD-Player, Tuner, MP3 Player, … ) will be heard in all the zones. (The relays of the ARU will be switched to background music) In case of an announcement, the ARU will switch to the signal coming from the paging microphone (for the channels selected by the buttons on the APM microphone) and the announcement will be heard in the selected zones.
The second ARU Unit will switch simultaneously with the first ARU Unit, and in this application it’s used for overriding volume control.
As shown in the diagram, every zone is equipped with one or more additional 100 Volt volume controllers which can be used for reducing the volume in that particular zone, or for that particular loudspeaker. In case of an announcement, and external 24 Volt power supply (switched by the 2nd ARU unit) will trigger the priority relay on the 100 Volt volume controller, making sure the announcement is always heard on maximum volume.
Example 4 Industrial Application
This application diagram shows an advanced setup where multiple APM Paging microphones and an ARU unit are used in a digital application.
The APM Paging microphones are connected directly to the Digital Matrix systems and the paging is configured using the software of the Matrix systems. The ARU Intelligent Relay Unit in this application is used for controlling external devices such as Lightning, Automatic projection screens and Automatic curtains. This provides the possibility for controlling an extreme variation of external devices, Almost everything controllable by contacts closure.
The ARU relays can be controlled simultaneously with voice announcements or by separately programmed buttons while both Relay-Toggle and Push-To-Hold is possible.
